John has been Chairman or Member of a number of Federal Government Committees, including the ALRC's Advisory Committee on Genetics and IP Rights, the Panel of Experts on the Biotechnology CenterCentre of Excellence, the IP & Competition Review, the Working Group for the Prime Minister's Science and Engineering Council IP Session, and the Industrial Property Advisory Committee. Previously, John was BHP's Director Development and Investments, and his responsibilities included the Patents, Licensing and Venture Capital Departments for the BHP Group. Before then, he worked as a financial executive with WR Grace & Co in New York and as a lawyer in Melbourne.
