Des' major areas of practice include advice and litigation in intellectual property law, technology transfer agreements and licensing; advice and consultancy on intellectual property management, copyright, trade mark infringement, trade mark opposition and unfair competition; wine law and geographical indications; mediation and expert witness services, particularly intellectual property disputes, and adjudication of domain name disputes. He joined the firm in 1954 and was a partner from 1959 to 2001, before being appointed a consultant. In 2012, Des was listed by The Australian Financial Review as one of 'Australia's Top Lawyers' in Intellectual Property.
