Grant is a patent attorney within the Engineering group based in the Brisbane office, where he is involved in patent prosecution, patent drafting, patent validity and infringement advice, and related opinion works. Grant's experience and interests cover a broad spectrum of engineering technologies.

Grant joined Davies Collison Cave in 2008, and is currently completing a Masters of Industrial Property Law at The University of Technology, Sydney.

A substantial portion of Grant's work with Davies Collison Cave involves the prosecution of patent and design applications for medical devices and related diagnostic methods and technologies. Grant's work has also exposed him to inventions across a broad range of other engineering areas. Example include components, panels and wood products for the building industry, a security device for the gaming industry, electrical switching apparatus, educational products, methods of generating software code, micro-electromechanical and nanotechnology devices, renewable energy generation apparatus, and refrigeration systems.

Prior to commencing a career as a Patent Attorney, Grant worked for several years in the Australian defence industry as an aerospace engineer. Working for a leading global defence and aerospace company, Grant gained experience in the areas of aircraft modifications and systems integration.

Grant has worked on a major modification project involving the upgrade of the Electronic Warfare Self Protection Systems of the Australian Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters. As part of this work, Grant performed conceptual and detailed design of components and structural modifications for the integration of flare and chaff dispensing systems onto the airframes of the two helicopter types. Grant was also involved in support system planning and design as part of a new aircraft acquisition program, and has provided through life support engineering services as part of ongoing maintenance and improvement programs for operational aircraft.

Grant also spent a year as a consulting engineer working on research and new product development projects across a diverse range of industries, gaining exposure to the development and commercialization of new technologies and products. Projects included design of safety modifications and guarding for packaging systems, prototype design for a boat anchoring automation system, testing and engine control unit programming for a new internal combustion engine, research into energy efficiency improvements for mining bulk material haulage, and research and conceptual development for new renewable energy generation systems.
