Ian is a Senior Associate working in the Trade Mark Group. His areas of practice encompass all aspects of trade mark searching and clearance for use, registration, oppositions and advice in relation to trade mark enforcement internationally. He has handled trade mark matters in most countries worldwide, including directly before the Australian, United Kingdom, European Community Trade Mark, New Zealand and Pacific Island Trade Mark Offices. In 2013, Ian was recognised as a world leading trade mark professional in the World Trade Mark Review 1000.
After completing Degrees in Economics and Arts at the Australian National University, Ian started his career at the Australian Trade Mark Office where he worked as a Senior Trade Mark Examiner. Whilst in that role, he qualified for registration as an Australian Trade Marks Attorney and completed a Masters specialising in Intellectual Property Law at ANU awarded with Merit.
Ian then worked for two years in London for a well-known Trade Mark Attorney firm where he prosecuted the full range of matters before the United Kingdom and Community Trade Mark Offices. Whilst in this position he had primary responsibility for the brands of several multi-national corporations which lead to him prosecuting trade mark matters in most countries of the world.
Ian joined Davies Collison Cave in 2006 and in 2009 completed a Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University awarded with Honours, receiving University Medals for first place in Property Law and Workplace Law, and being listed in the Dean's Merit List of graduates. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2010.
Ian represents both local and international clients with business interests in a wide range of industries and has a thriving practice in all aspects of prosecution and protection of trade mark rights. He is also a co-author of the International Registration section of Lahore: Patent, Trade Mark and Related Rights.
