Leon is the chairman of the firm's national management board. Leon has extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution, in Australia and overseas, of patent applications for industry and research organisations in the fields of physics and engineering. He is also experienced in the preparation of patent applications in the areas of fibre optics, lasers, construction, agricultural and earth moving equipment, internal combustion engines and building products. He has also been extensively involved in opposition proceedings before the Australian Patent Office and in infringement actions for enforcement of patents in Australia.
Leon started in the profession in 1981 and joined Davies Collison Cave in 1995. Leon is currently the immediate past President of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) having served on the Council since 1992. In January 2009 Leon was appointed as Chair of the Advisory Council on Intellectual Property (ACIP) to the Federal Government. Leon is also a Fellow of the International Federation of Patent Attorneys (FICPI) Academy of Education teaching patent drafting in Europe.
