John's principal area of practice is intellectual property litigation. He also regularly provides advice in relation to all aspects of intellectual property rights and their enforcement. John is recognised as one of Australia's leading intellectual property lawyers and has recently been ranked in the top 20 Australian trade mark, copyright, and design litigation lawyers. He is a special lecturer for Patent Law and Commercialisation in the Queensland University of Technology's Master of Laws program. John joined the firm in 1994, becoming a partner in 2005.

He has more than 15 years extensive experience in the conduct of a variety of types of litigation involving intellectual property matters. In his practice he regularly acts in patent, copyright, design, trade mark and trade practices litigation in the Federal jurisdictions and he has considerable experience in major international patent litigation. He has a particular interest in pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnology patent matters due to his science background. John acts on behalf of a range of clients which include small local businesses, government organisations and large multi-national corporations involved in all areas of technology and creative endeavour including sporting equipment, high end fashion, safety, pharmaceuticals, plastics, chemicals, building and construction and electronic consumer goods.
