Brett specialises in domestic and international trade mark law and is responsible for the management of trade mark portfolios for both local and overseas clients. He advises on the legal ramifications arising from the adoption of trade marks and handles the prosecution of domestic, overseas and International Registration applications, trade mark opposition proceedings, matters involving trade mark infringement, passing off and breaches of the consumer protection provisions of the Trade Practices Act 1974, Australian Customs Service, trade mark notifications for the seizure of infringing products and parallel importation and grey market goods issues.
Brett joined the firm in 1991 and became a Partner in 1996. He has extensive experience in all aspects of trade mark law and practice and is a member of various professional bodies. He is currently representing the Australian Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys in Trade Mark Consultation Group meetings with IP Australia and is a member of the International Trade Mark Committee of Fédération Internationale de Conseils en Propriété Industrielle (FICPI).
