Katherine joined Davies Collison Cave as a trainee attorney in 2011 as part of the Engineering group based in the Brisbane office. Katherine's experience and interests cover a variety of technologies including biomedical and electronics engineering, image processing and software.

Prior to commencing a career as a Patent Attorney, Katherine completed her DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford, UK, in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering as a General Sir John Monash scholar and Clarendon scholar. Katherine’s thesis focussed on the development and implementation of novel algorithms for the segmentation and analysis of blood vessels in medical images with a view to automating and quantifying diagnosis of circulatory pathologies.

Katherine has a background in microelectronics engineering and computer systems, having obtained a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours from Griffith University. Positions held in this capacity include with the Radio Networks group of Telstra Research Laboratories researching signal dimensioning for mobile phone networks, and with the Hardware Engineering group at Lucent Technologies designing and testing electronic circuits and PCBs.

She also holds a Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) from Griffith University and over the years has held several positions as a technical developer including with Suncorp Metway as a web developer and at Thiess developing on-site project costing software.

During the course of her studies, Katherine received awards and recognition including a University Medal (Griffith University), Microelectronics Engineering Medal (Griffith University), Information Technology Medal (Griffith University), Young Australian of the Year - Queensland Finalist, Telstra Undergraduate Research Education Fellowship and Lucent Global Science Scholarship.
