MEng (Chemical), PhD, Trainee Patent Attorney

Dario Buso

Areas of Expertise

  • Patents
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Materials Science
  • Nanotechnology

Dario is a Trainee Patent Attorney within the Materials Science group. In his research career he has explored a diverse range of fields comprising materials engineering, materials synthesis and industrial process development.

Dario has a Chemical Engineering degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering; he acquired extensive experience in the field of advanced materials, polymers and nanotechnology for sustainable energy, sensing and photonics. His Ph.D. project focussed on the synthesis of inorganic metal-oxides coatings containing metal and/or semiconductor nanoparticles for the remote and electro-less detection of flammable and toxic compounds.

Dario performed his post-doctoral research in Australia as the recipient of an Australian Research Council (ARC) fellowship, working in a joint project between the CSIRO and Swinburne University of Technology. His research has stretched into the realm of hybrid organic-inorganic composites, and diversified into the production of polymeric nanocomposites for photonics (organic methacrylates, epoxy-based photo-sensitive resists for lithography and micro-fabrication), photovoltaics (organic poly-thiophenes), gas storage (metal-organic frameworks) and biotechnology in collaboration with the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (bio-conjugation of magnetic and luminescent micro/nanoparticles with antibodies for the early detection of viruses).
