Davies Collison Cave boasts an industry leading team that head professional bodies, provide high-level government advice and have proven records as respected advocates.
B.Sc.(Eng.), Patent Attorney
Ray has been in practice for over 40 years and heads up the engineering group of the firm. Although he still undertakes patent drafting and prosecution work for a number of major engineering clients, much of his practice involves high level advice in relation to infringement and validity matters and he also has significant involvement in litigious matters. His mechanical engineering background has provided the basis for a practice covering a wide range of engineering technologies including building products, automotive, agricultural, and medical. He also has a particular expertise in design law and related aspects of copyright law.
Ray's professional career commenced in the patent department of a large UK engineering company before moving to a UK patent attorney firm at which he was a partner for a number of years. Ray joined Davies Collison Cave in 1982 and became a partner in 1984.
Ray has academic appointments at both the University of Melbourne and Monash University where he teaches patent and design law topics in the Masters programmes of both those universities.
