Hayden specializes in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in fields relating to mechanical engineering. He has assisted clients in pursuing patent protection for inventions in many areas, including: mining and materials processing components, door locks and latches, automotive technology, anaesthetic needles, and orthopaedic devices. Hayden also has advised on validity and infringement of patents and registered designs, and prepared IP due diligence reports.

Hayden also has a specialty in registering designs in Australia, and has extensive experience in protecting the appearance of a wide range of products. These include beverage bottles, industrial tools, academic aids, clothing and footwear, bags, and automotive tyres. Hayden also assists local design owners in protecting their designs overseas, and has experience registering designs in many of Australia's major trading partners.

Hayden's started in the patent attorney profession in 2002, and joined Davies Collison Cave in 2011 after having worked for another large Australian IP firm. Hayden qualified as a patent attorney in 2005.
