Richard Brown | Partner B.Sc. (Hons), Ph.D, M.IP Law, Dip / IPP(IPTA)
Richard specialises in patent matters related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT), microelectronics, microsystems/nanotechnology and physics. His practice includes drafting patent specifications, local and international prosecution, and providing validity and infringement advice. He has extensive experience in a diverse range of technologies,including software and hardware based inventions, networking and Internet technologies, e-commerce, business methods, microelectronics, semiconductor and materials processing, photonics, telecommunications, microsystems / MEMS, nanotechnology, physics, and bioinformatics.

Previously, Richard was a Research Professor at the Microelectronics Research Center at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a Resident Consultant at Bell Laboratories (Lucent Technologies), a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University, and a Research Associate in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at North Carolina State University.

Richard has directed and performed research in the fields of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), nanotechnology, materials engineering, and semiconductor processing. He has lectured in microelectronics, semiconductor processing, MEMS, and materials science and has over 40 technical publications. He will be teaching the course "Patenting for Commercialisation" in the Faculty of Law at Monash University in 2009.
