Abolition of Patent Search Results Requirements - Monday, October 22, 2007
The Australian Government released amendments on 17 October 2007 to effectively remove the requirement to lodge search results at the Australian Patent Office.
The amendments commence operation on 22 October 2007, and, for standard patents, require results that were due before that date to be filed only for applications that had been advertised as accepted before 22 July 2007. For all other applications for standard patents no results now need to be filed.
Similar amendments have been made in relation to the search results that would have been required if an innovation patent is examined for certification.

Scam warning: unsolicited mail about overseas patent protection - Tuesday, November 14, 2006
You may receive unsolicited letters resembling invoices from companies offering filing or registration-type services related to overseas patents, including national phase entry from international patent applications. These letters are usually sent soon after details of international patent applications have been published and/or shortly before national phase entry is due.
To avoid being exploited by these companies or unnecessarily complicating the prosecution of your application, the only letters you should respond to, and the only invoices you should pay, are those received from this firm – you should ignore all others. The only exceptions are letter and invoices concerning patent renewals received from our strategic partner Computer Patent Annuities (CPA).
If you receive an unsolicited letter, you should send a copy to us so that we can protect you from scams, bogus offers and phoney invoices.
