Registered designs protect the appearance of a product in terms either of its overall shape and/or features of surface decoration applied to the article. Design Patents & Invention Protection
Registration is obtained by application to the Designs Office with accompanying documentation, including good quality graphic drawings (not engineering drawings) illustrating the finished article or photographs (black and white or coloured) of good quality showing the product.
The design is protected for an maximum period of ten years with a renewel fee payable at the fifth year.
