Peter Huntsman steps down as International President of FICPI; named President of Honour

This week Melbourne has the privilege of hosting the World Congress for the Bureau of the Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys - FICPI). The congress provides members from all over the world with the opportunity to observe and participate in discussions with leading professionals, the Judiciary and IP Authorities, and to influence the future direction of intellectual property law worldwide.
For Peter Huntsman, a Partner of Davies Collison Cave and International President of FICPI, this will be a busy time as he hosts the congress and steps down to become a President of Honour. Peter took the position of International President for a three year term in 2009. Prior to this Peter was the President of the Australian Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI Australia) for six years.
In his role as International President Peter was at the forefront of activities involving intellectual property and regularly met with senior officials from a variety of IP bodies, including the United States Patent & Trade Mark Office, the European Patent Office, the Japanese Patent Office, the Indian Patent Office, IP Australia, the World Intellectual Property Office, the World Trade Organisation and the European Commission.
Peter states that during his busy time as International President he has “enjoyed the involvement at a high level in the IP world and the people and strangely even the pressure”. He is looking forward to taking on his new position of President of the Training and Education Commission.
