Nick is a patent attorney specialising in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications across a range of engineering-related sectors including automotive, cleantech, sports technology, medical devices, manufacturing, robotics and industrial automation. Nick also provides advice on patentability, patent infringement and validity and patent and design filing strategies.
Nick graduated from the University of Adelaide with a double degree in Mechatronic Engineering and Mathematical and Computer Sciences, in which he majored in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. After graduating University, Nick worked for several years as an aircraft structural engineer for a leading global defence and aerospace company. Nick was involved in the design and implementation of an Electronic Warfare Self-Protection system upgrade of the Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters for the Australian Army. In this role, Nick gained practical experience in structural, stress, vibration and fatigue analysis of aircraft structure.
Prior to joining Davies Collison Cave, Nick gained experience working for the largest patent attorney firm in Adelaide. A significant portion of Nick's experience has been in helping local clients obtain patent and design protection in Australia and overseas. Nick has drafted patent applications for a wide range of technologies including inventions related to bicycle suspension systems, antenna manufacturing, transformer core manufacturing, thin film solar roofing, orthopaedic implants and vehicle rear vision mirrors.
