John joined Davies Collison Cave in 1969, was registered as a patent attorney in 1970 and became a partner of the firm in 1971. He retired from the partnership in 2008, and now acts as a consultant to the firm. Prior to joining the firm, John was an Examiner of Patents with the Australian Patent Office, now IP Australia. From 1970 to 1980 he was in charge of the Canberra office of the firm, and he then moved to the Melbourne office to head the biotechnology group. John practices generally in the biotechnology, biochemistry and organic and pharmaceutical chemistry fields, covering all aspects of patent practice in Australia and overseas, including patentability advice, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, patent oppositions, patent validity and infringement advice and litigation matters.
