Joanna specialises in patent prosecution and drafting in the areas of pharmaceuticals, general chemistry and biotechnology as well as filing and prosecuting patent term extensions, conducting patent oppositions and providing patent infringement and validity advice. Joanna has extensive expertise in pharmaceuticals, consumer health products, animal health products, process technology, analytical chemistry, food technology, medical devices, agricultural chemicals as well as other areas of general chemistry.
Joanna was awarded the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia Academy Medal in 2009.
Prior to joining Davies Collison Cave in 2007, Joanna was the Manager of a development laboratory of a large multinational pharmaceutical company. Joanna has 10 years global research, development and commercialisation experience within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the UK, Ireland, Puerto Rico, the US and Australia. She also has considerable experience in regulatory affairs in relation to pharmaceutical, consumer and animal health products both in Australia and overseas.
Joanna completed her PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Her doctoral research involved the design and implementation of process analytical technologies for use in the manufacture of dyes and pesticides. Whilst completing her honours degree at the University of Swansea in Wales, Joanna won the Dow Corning Award for Chemistry, the Royal Society of Chemistry Prize for Analytical Chemistry and the J. J. Ayling Prize for Chemistry.
