Patent Attorney - Sydney (Organic Chemistry)

The firm is now recruiting for an experienced qualified patent attorney with 2 or more years experience to join the Life Sciences team in our Sydney office.

Qualifications, experience and skills required:

  • a higher degree, preferably PhD, in organic chemistry
  • current registration as an Australian Patent Attorney or equivalent qualification and willing to undertake additional study to register as an Australian Patent Attorney (persons qualified in other jurisdictions can usually obtain some credit towards Australian registration)
  • experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications across a broad spectrum of organic chemistry
  • post doctoral or industry experience will also be valued
  • an excellent communicator with a strong command of written and verbal English and excellent interpersonal skills
  • able to understand, critically analyse information and think laterally
  • well organised and self motivated
  • committed to providing clients with quality advice and service

Your day to day work will involve all aspects of private patent attorney practice, including liaising with inventors and corporate clients, drafting patent specifications, providing patentability, patent infringement, patent validity opinions, prosecuting patent applications and handling patent oppositions.

For interstate and international candidates, please note the firm is prepared to offer a relocation package for your move to Sydney.

Trade Mark Lawyer

(1 to 3 years experience)

Davies Collison Cave is Australia's leading patent and trade mark attorney firm. We have an exciting opportunity for a trade mark lawyer with 1 to 3 years relevant experience to join our Melbourne office and become an integral part of Australia's largest trade mark practice.

Our national team advises on all aspects of trade marks including search analysis and advice, prosecution of domestic and overseas applications, opposition proceedings and enforcement of trade mark rights.  Our trade mark attorneys practice in both Australia and New Zealand and have access to an established network of international associates. This enables us to offer expert advice and services worldwide, and we have strong overseas clients and associate relationships particularly throughout the United States, Europe and South-East Asia.  At Davies Collison Cave we work responsively and in close collaboration with our clients to ensure that they receive high quality, commercially realistic advice and outcomes.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia
  • Registered Trade Mark Attorney
  • 1 to 3 years experience in an IP Law or Trade Mark team
