Industry leadership

Historically, partners of Davies Collison Cave have been actively involved in the education and regulation of the Australian profession, and in the development of intellectual property legislation in Australia.

Partners have frequently held lead positions in significant national and international intellectual property organisations, including the Institute of Patent and Trade mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), The Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia, AIPPI, LES, FICPI , APAA, IPSANZ and INTA.

This involvement continues today:

  • Leon Allen is Chairman of the Australian government advisory board known as the Advisory Council on Intellectual Property (ACIP) and President of IPTA.
  • Ian Pascarl is the immediate past Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia. Ian is at the cutting edge of Australian IP law reform and policy development.
  • Peter Huntsman is the International President of FICPI. Peter is also the immediate past president of FICPI Australia.
  • Adam Sears is Chairman of the INTA Subcommittee – Legislation and Regulation – East Asia and Pacific.
  • Michael Wolnizer is Chairman of the INTA Subcommittee - Trade marks Office Practice - Asia Pacific/Canada Region. He is also Leader of the INTA Asia Pacific Membership Recruitment Council.
  • Marion Heathcote is the Chairperson of the INTA Subcommittee on Indigenous Peoples Rights. She is also a member of the Marques "Outer Borders" Team and serves on the Management Committee of the International Wine Law Association's Australasian Section. She has recently stepped down as a Director of INTA.
  • David Webber is a member of the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade marks Attorneys. He is also an International Councillor for APAA and treasurer of APAA (Australian Group).
  • Michael Caine is a council member and convenor of the Patent Legislation Committee of IPTA.
  • Mark Roberts is a council member of FICPI Australia.
  • Tania Obranovich is a Board member of Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys
  • Rodney De Boos is a former past President of the Licensing Executives Society of Australia and New Zealand (LESANZ), former President of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) and the recipient of the LESI Gold Medal.
  • Richard Jarvis is the past Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia and also past Chair of the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Committee of the International Bar Association’s Intellectual Property, Communications and Technology Section.
  • Des Ryan is a past President of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property, past President of the Institute of Patent Attorneys Australia, past President of the AIPPI Australian Group, current panellist on the WIPO Panel for the adjudication of disputes under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). Des is also a member of the Trade Policy Advisory Council to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Co-Chairman of the LAWASIA IP Committee, past Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia, a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia, past President of the LES Australia/New Zealand and Licensing Executives Society International. Des has also been awarded the WIPO Gold Medal.
